Houston’s Restaurant is geared more towards the casual business class. This is a place where many business deals are made and is akin to the Cheesecake Factory. The prices are a bit high for anyone on a budget, but the food is simply delicious. Houston’s Restaurant takes American classic foods to the next level. This is not just a burger joint, but instead the restaurant creates gourmet burgers.
2) Bird Key This neighborhood of just over 500 homes is located in between Lido Key and downtown Sarasota. Bird Key is a huge draw to boaters because of the deep water canals and bay front homes. The waterfront homes can accommodate large boats and sailboats. The water is deep and you can get to the bay with no bridges. Many of the older 1960’s and 1970’s homes have been torn down to make way for newer construction. Convenience is also a big draw. St. Armands Circle, downtown Sarasota, Longboat Key beach and Lido Key beach are within minutes. Residents of Bird Key can hop in their car and be eating in one of the great restaurants around St. Armands Circle within minutes.
If you aren’t in the mood for something heavy, you can get a variety of pizza with just cheese, to single toppings or gourmet pizza covered with mozzarella cheese and large, thin slices of eggplant. Delicious! And there are always a long list of daily specials, all made from scratch with fresh ingredients. Believe me, you’ll have a tough time deciding what to get!
My eating companion who would normally for one of the italian Parmesan Subs at the specialty Sandwich Co. He wanted to try something different so he ordered the Veal Cordon Bleu. For .29 this was a great sandwich, and a great buy.
Take time out for lunch. Next to the Tanger Factory Outlet Mall is the Forwards Quality Inn and Conference Center. Attached to the hotel is the Lumberjack Restaurant. I’ve eaten there several times and they have an unique atmosphere, as well as a great menu (I recommend the chicken quesadillas). While you enjoy the atmosphere within the restaurant, take a minute to check out the unique gifts offered not only within the restaurant, but the hotel lobby as well. If you aren’t in the mood for something new, there is every fast-food chain imaginable nearby, as well as a few dinner around me restaurants such as Applebee’s.
There are a number of drawbacks, however. Firstly, during peak dinner times, the wait for a table can be excrutiatingly long (think one to two hours). On weekend nights while the college is in session, the bar can be completely inaccessible. This is due both to the proximity to the college and to the small size of the bar. Other bars close to the college, such as the Flying Bull Saloon and the Blue Parrot Bistro, don’t have this problem as much due to their size and efficiency.
